The University of Minnesota Morris is one of Sierra magazine's top 40 "Cool Schools" for 2018. UMN Morris was ranked #1 in the state and #33 in the nation in this year's listing by the Sierra Club's official publication, which ranks universities that lead sustainability initiatives and strive to protect and preserve the environment.

This year 269 colleges and universities participated in the survey—evidence that sustainability values continue to grow in the field of higher education.

This is UMN Morris's eighth consecutive appearance on the list. The campus has ranked in the top 40 since 2013.

Related Achievements

The Sierra recognition is only the most recent of Morris's sustainability accolades. The campus recently earned the National Association of College and University Business Officers' First Excellence in Sustainability Award and a STARS Gold rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). UMN Morris also was featured in the 2018 AASHE Sustainable Campus Index for its work to support American Indian students.
