The 2017–18 University of Minnesota, Morris Performing Arts Series continues with a performance by Gaelynn Lea on Friday, February 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Edson Auditorium, Student Center.

A songwriter and classically trained violinist, Lea has bewitched fans with her haunting original songs and experimental takes on traditional fiddle music. She most recently won NPR Music's 2016 Tiny Desk Contest, a competition drawing submissions of original songs from more than 6,000 musicians across the country.

In recent years Lea has used her music to advocate for people with disabilities and to promote positive social change.

Her speaking engagements focus on disability, finding inner freedom, and the power of music.
