UMN Morris to Engage in Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
The Morris campus and community will take part in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 20. University volunteers will focus on youth programming, inspiring area elementary students with ideas for civic engagement and social justice.
Unlike previous years (which focused on serving area nonprofits), this year's day of service will focus on providing a full day of programming for area students. Students will engage in music, art, and mini theatre activities.
"In past years, school had been in session on the day and we would send volunteers into classrooms to do a brief 20-minute exercise," says Sarah Eckel, community program assistant. "Working with children being an ideal project, we decided to continue to make that the focus by providing free programming for children."
All events will be held at the Morris Area Elementary School (151 S Columbia Ave, Morris, MN 56267).
