UMN Morris to Take Part in Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

The Morris campus and community will celebrate its 10th Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service on Monday, January 21. People of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend all or parts of the day, which include children's projects, community-building projects, a march, a program, and a free community meal.

Volunteers will meet at Faith Lutheran Church (108 West 8th Street, Morris, MN 56267) at 12:45 p.m. for registration, with a project start time of 1 p.m. Following the service projects, there will be a short march, program, and Morris Community meal at the church. The schedule is as follows:

Registration

12:45 p.m.

Service projects

1–4:30 p.m.

Morris Community Meal preparation, literacy and art with children, preparation for the march (dialogue and sign making)

March

4:30–5 p.m.

Sing along

5–5:30 p.m.

Program

6–6:30 p.m.

Morris Community Meal

The Morris Community Meal menu will feature Uzbek Plov - Mashkichiri (a traditional rice and mung beans plov), "Achichuk Salad," and Baklava. The Morris Community Meal is sponsored by Morris Women of Today, Morris Kiwanis, Riverwood Bank, and Homeland Mortgage.

Transportation

Transportation will be available from campus to Faith Lutheran Church at 12:45, 4:15, and 5 p.m. Transportation from Faith Lutheran Church back to campus will be available at 7:30 p.m.

To Join

Anyone is welcome to join any part of the day's activities. Children 12 and under should be accompanied by an adult; children 13 and older should have adult permission to participate.
