The University of Minnesota, Morris is one of Sierra magazine's top 40 "Cool Schools" for 2017. Morris was ranked #2 in the state and #34 in the nation in this year's listing by the Sierra Club's official publication, which ranks universities that lead sustainability initiatives and strive to protect and preserve the environment.

This year more than 200 colleges and universities participated in the survey—a significant increase from just last year and evidence that sustainability values have taken root in the field of higher education.

This is the campus's seventh consecutive appearance on the list. It has consistently ranked in the top 40 since 2013.

The Sierra recognition is only the most recent of Morris's sustainability accolades. The campus also earned a 2017 Minnesota Climate Adaptation Award by the Minnesota Climate Adaptation Partnership (MCAP).

The "Cool Schools" survey was conducted by the Sierra Club, in collaboration with the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. More information on the survey and methodology is available at
