UMN Morris Will Celebrate 55th Commencement

More than 350 University of Minnesota, Morris students will receive their degrees at the 55th Commencement on Saturday, May 12. The ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. on the campus mall. All are invited to attend or to watch the event streamed online.

Ceremony Program

The Symphonic Winds, along with the Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, will perform prior to and throughout the ceremony. Shane McKinley '18, Buffalo, will sing "The Star Bangled Banner."

Chancellor Michelle Behr will provide the welcome and recognition of special guests. University of Minnesota Regent Abdul Omari will give additional remarks. As 2018 recipient of the Curtis H. Larson Award, Ruby DeBellis '18, Bloomington, will speak on behalf of the graduates.

Commencement Speaker: United States Senator Amy Klobuchar

Senator Amy Klobuchar will be the Commencement speaker. Senator Klobuchar is the first woman elected to represent the State of Minnesota in the United States Senate. Throughout her public service, she has always embraced the values she learned growing up in Minnesota.

In recognition of the campus's origins as an American Indian boarding school, the Northern Wind Singers (Woodland Ojibwe) will perform a Native American Honor Song to recognize and pay tribute to the Class of 2018. Anishinaabe Language Instructor Gabe Desrosiers '05, Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada, is the lead singer/composer for the group and the keeper of the drum.

University of Minnesota, Morris Alumni Association President Larry Traversie '00 will welcome the new graduates into the UMM Alumni Association. A reception will be held in the Student Center, Oyate Hall, after the ceremony.

In Case of Rain

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the P.E. Center. Seating will be limited to five guest tickets per graduate.

Accommodations for unticketed guests to view the ceremony will be available in Humanities Fine Arts, Recital Hall.
