Cougar Athletics Unveils Hall of Fame Class of 2019

Three individuals and two teams will be inducted into the Cougar Athletics Hall of Fame as part of Homecoming Weekend, September 20-21, 2019.

Three individuals and two teams will be inducted into the Cougar Athletics Hall of Fame as part of Homecoming Weekend, September 20-21, 2019.

The Cougar Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2019 is comprised of:

  • Erika Bailey-Johnson '99 - Volleyball
  • Tom Beyer '81 - Wrestling
  • Jenna Maki Swenson '05 - Volleyball
  • 1994 Men's Tennis Team
  • 1995 Men's Tennis Team

Erika Bailey-Johnson

No other Cougar has played in more sets in school history than Erika Bailey-Johnson '99. During her four years donning the Maroon & Gold, Bailey-Johnson played in 486 sets.

Along with her 486 sets played, Bailey-Johnson ranks second in career kills (1,483), third in career attacks (3,958), fifth in career digs (1,503), ninth in career total blocks (239), and ninth in career solo blocks (75).

Bailey-Johnson was also a three-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference First Team honoree (1995-97).

Tom Beyer

Tom Beyer '81 became the first national champion in school history with his NCAA Division III wrestling title at 167 pounds in 1979. Along with his national title in '79, Beyer recorded a second-place finish in '81 and a fourth-place finish in '80. He was also a three-time Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion (1978, '80, '81).

Jenna Maki Swenson

Jenna Maki Swenson '05 made her name known throughout the Cougar Volleyball record book during her time on campus. Currently, Swenson ranks No. 2 in career attacks (4,093), fourth in career kills (1,388), fourth in career digs (1,601), fifth in total blocks (278) sixth in solo blocks (88) and ninth in block assists (190).

Maki still owns the school record for kills in match with 31 in a five-set match against Northwestern on Oct. 9, 2004.

1994 & '95 Men's Tennis Teams

The Cougar men's tennis team in 1994, under the direction of head coach Perry Ford, won the NAIA District 13 title. Then in 1995, without a head coach, the Cougars won the NAIA Midwest Regional title.
